Johanna Spanke receives gold medal at the Deutsche Fotobuchpreis

Johanna Spanke has been awarded the gold medal in the category of photo theory at the Deutsche Fotobuchpreis (German Photobook Prize) for her dissertation "Photomurals: Fotografische Wandbilder in transnationalen Aushandlungsprozessen zwischen Mexiko und den USA" (Photomurals: Photographic Murals in Transnational Processes of Negotiation between Mexico and the USA). Her dissertation has been published by De Gruyter and forms the first volume of the series "Verflechtung – Aushandlung – Opazität. Kunsthistorische Studien", which is edited by Prof. Dr. Margit Kern. The medal was presented on November 23 in the Städtische Galerie in Regensburg. The Deutsche Fotobuchpreis is organized by the "Festival fotografischer Bilder e. V." and is awarded annually to exemplary contemporary photo books and books about photographic images in several categories.
